Dreaming About Garbage: The Bible Gives It No Meaning

  • Scripture gives no meaning to garbage seen in a dream. It records many dreams but interprets only a few, and always through a named servant for a named purpose.
  • Gehenna, the word our Lord used for hell, is Ge-Hinnom — the valley outside Jerusalem where the city’s waste was burned and the fire never quite went out (Mark 9:47-48).
  • Paul, writing from prison, counts his lineage and blameless record as garbage “that I may gain Christ” (Philippians 3:8). The Greek word means scraps thrown to dogs.
  • Most of us search this at night because something in us feels like refuse, not because we are curious about waste.
  • Scripture’s answer is a pattern: the rejected stone becomes the cornerstone, the spent son is met on the road, the lost sheep is carried home. Nothing God loves is finally thrown away.

Let us begin with the honest word, because it is kinder than a guess: Scripture gives no meaning to garbage seen in a dream.
