- There is no single count, because the Bible contains at least five men named Joseph plus the tribe of Joseph.
- Joseph son of Jacob occupies Genesis 37 to 50 — the longest sustained narrative about any one person in the book.
- Joseph the husband of Mary never speaks a recorded word in any Gospel. He acts four times after dreams, each time immediately.
