聖書における樫の木の意味:出来事が起こった場所

  • 聖書に登場する樫の木は、出会いや埋葬、記念碑の建立など、出来事の舞台となる目印です。あの土地では、大きな木は何マイル先からでも見え、何世紀にもわたって存在し続けます。
  • アブラハムはマムレの大きな木々のそばで3人の訪問者を迎え、木陰で昼食を振る舞いました(創世記18章1節)。
  • 創世記35章8節には、リベカの乳母デボラのために「アロン・バクト(涙の樫の木)」と名付けられた木が登場します。デボラは聖書の中で一度も言葉を発することのない女性でした。
  • ギデオンは酒ぶねの中に隠れているところを、オフラの樫の木の下に座っていた御使いから「勇士」と呼ばれました(士師記6章11-12節)。ヨシュアは、人が歩いてたどり着けるように、樫の木の下に石を立てました(ヨシュア記24章26節)。
  • イザヤ書61章3節は、回復した人々を「義の樫の木」と呼び、イザヤ書6章13節は、切り倒されても再び芽を出す樫の木の切り株を、破滅後の唯一の慰めとして提示しています。
