20 Bible Verses About Being Prepared



  • Matthew 25:13, Mark 13:33 and Luke 12:40 tie readiness to the return of Christ, and Mark 13:32 says not even the Son knows the day or hour.
  • In the parable of the ten virgins all ten fall asleep; the five who brought oil in jars go in to the wedding banquet before the door is shut (Matthew 25:1-13).
  • Amos 4:12, “prepare to meet your God,” comes after Israel ignored hunger, drought, locusts and plague, each followed by “yet you have not returned to me.”
  • Ezra 7:10 uses the Hebrew kun, which the King James Version renders “prepared his heart,” and names study, observance and teaching.
  • Proverbs 6:6-8 points to the ant that stores its food in summer; in Luke 14:28-30 the builder counting the cost of a tower is a picture of following Jesus.

The Bible asks people to be prepared to meet God, to be ready for the work and the discipleship he calls them to, to stand firm when trouble comes, and to plan and provide ahead.
