  • In John 15:5 Jesus pictures connection with him as a branch remaining in a vine, and says that apart from him “you can do nothing.”
  • 1 Corinthians 12, Romans 12 and Ephesians 4 all compare the church to one body, and Romans 12:5 says “each member belongs to all the others.”
  • 1 John 4 ties connection with God to love between people: “if we love one another, God lives in us” (verse 12).
  • Hebrews 10:24-25 names the purpose of meeting together as encouragement and spurring one another toward love and good deeds.
  • Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 lists what two people gain over one: help after a fall, warmth and defence.

The Bible describes connection in two directions, to God and to other people.
