Wat de Bijbel zegt over narcisme: 19 verzen over trots, en wat het niet zal diagnosticeren

  • De Bijbel heeft geen woord voor narcisme. Het is een klinische term met diagnostische criteria, en de Schrift is geen diagnostisch handboek.
  • Wat er wel in staat is trots, en één uitdrukking die in de buurt komt: Paulus waarschuwt dat mensen “liefhebbers van zichzelf” zullen zijn (2 Timoteüs 3:2).
  • Spreuken 26:12 zegt dat er meer hoop is voor een dwaas dan voor iemand die wijs is in eigen ogen.
  • Galaten 6:3-4 vertelt elke lezer om zijn eigen daden te toetsen, zonder zichzelf met iemand anders te vergelijken.
  • 2 Timoteüs 3:5 eindigt de lijst van Paulus met een instructie om niets met dergelijke mensen te maken te hebben, en geen van deze verzen vraagt iemand om in gevaar te blijven.
