21 Bijbelverzen over duisternis en kwaad



  • Johannes 3:19-20 en Efeziërs 5:11 verbinden beide duisternis met verborgen kwade daden, en beide spreken over het feit dat die daden door het licht aan het licht worden gebracht.
  • De Bijbel herleidt het kwaad tot menselijke begeerte (Jakobus 1:14-15, Romeinen 7:19) en tot geestelijke machten (Efeziërs 6:12, 1 Petrus 5:8), en 2 Korintiërs 11:14 zegt dat Satan zich voordoet als een engel van het licht.
  • Psalm 139:11-12 en Daniël 2:22 zeggen dat duisternis niets voor God verbergt.
  • Johannes 1:5 zegt dat de duisternis het licht niet heeft overwonnen; de King James Version leest “the darkness comprehended it not.”
  • Openbaring 21:25 en 21:27 beschrijven het nieuwe Jeruzalem als een stad zonder nacht en zonder iets onreins erin.

In the Bible, darkness stands for evil: people “loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil” (John 3:19).
