简短的祈祷涵盖了和平、普通民众的安全、领导人、被俘者及其家人、伤者与哀恸者、圣地的基督徒、犹太人民、和解以及祈祷者自身。
耶稣曾为耶路撒冷哀哭（路加福音 19:41–42），保罗也写道，他“心里所愿的，向神所求的，是要以色列人得救”（罗马书 10:1）。
根据 Hapgood 1906 年的译本，东正教大连祷文中的祈求包括“为普世的和平”以及“为每一座城市和土地”祈祷。
