概要
- 聖書はアダムとエバの最初の住まいをエデンの園として描写しています。そこは豊かさと調和、そして霊的な意味に満ちた場所であり、「東の方」に位置し、四つの川に分かれる川が流れていました。
- 園にある木々（命の木や善悪の知識の木を含む）は、永遠の命と道徳的な識別力を象徴しており、単なる物理的な実体以上のものを表しています。
- エデンの物語は、文字通りの歴史的記述から、人類の本来の恵みの状態や神との関係を象徴するものまで、キリスト教の各教派によって異なって解釈されてきました。
- エデンの正確な場所は謎のままですが、その象徴的な意味は、創造の善、人間の責任、そしてキリストを通じた贖いと回復への希望というテーマを中心に展開しています。
