概要
- 「ペンシルベニア・ダッチ」という言葉は、オランダ人ではなく、ドイツ語を話す移民の子孫を指す。これは「ペンシルベニア・ダイチ（Pennsylvania Deitsch）」の誤解に由来する。
- アーミッシュは、ルター派やメノナイトなど様々な宗派を含む、より広範なペンシルベニア・ダッチ・コミュニティの中の特定の宗教グループである。
- 言語は両グループのアイデンティティにおいて重要な役割を果たしており、ペンシルベニア・ダッチ語が主要な話し言葉である一方、教育や職業は両者の間で大きく異なる。
- アーミッシュは現代社会や技術からの分離を優先するが、他のペンシルベニア・ダッチのグループは主流文化とより統合し、信仰と現代生活のバランスをとっている。
