Summary

Proverbs 3:5-6 sets trust in the Lord against leaning on one’s own understanding and being wise in one’s own eyes.
Jeremiah 17:5-8 contrasts the man who trusts in man, a shrub in the desert, with the man who trusts in the Lord, a tree by water that does not cease to bear fruit.
In Daniel 3:28, Nebuchadnezzar says Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego trusted God and “yielded up their bodies” rather than worship another god.
Numbers 23:19 is spoken by Balaam, hired to curse Israel, who says God is not man that he should lie or change his mind.
2 Timothy 2:13 says that if we are faithless, God remains faithful, “for he cannot deny himself.”

The Bible asks people to trust God with the whole heart instead of their own understanding.
