19 Bible Verses About Help



  • Psalm 121:1-2 uses the Hebrew noun ezer for the help that comes from the Lord, the same word Genesis 2:18 uses for the woman as “a helper fit for” the man.
  • Hebrews 13:5-6 joins the promise “I will never leave you nor forsake you” to Psalm 118, whose writer calls the Lord “my helper.”
  • In John 14:16 Jesus calls the Holy Spirit “another Helper,” translating the Greek parakletos.
  • Paul asked three times for his thorn in the flesh to be removed, and the answer he records in 2 Corinthians 12:9 is grace in weakness.
  • Galatians 6:2 and James 5:16 place help inside the church: bearing one another’s burdens and praying for one another.

The Bible names God as the source of help. A psalm asks “From where does my help come?” and answers, “My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:1-2). Psalm 46:1 calls God “a very present help in trouble,” and in Isaiah 41:13 God says “I am the one who helps you.” Hebrews 4:16 invites prayer for “grace to help in time of need,” and in John 14:16 Jesus promises the Holy Spirit as “another Helper.”…
