- Die Bibel nennt nicht Jeremias genaues Alter, als Gott ihn berief, nur dass er sich zu jung fühlte, und das hebräische Wort „na’ar“ kann eine Spanne vom Kind bis zum jungen Erwachsenen bezeichnen.
- Gelehrte interpretieren „Ich bin noch zu jung“ als Ausdruck von Jeremias Demut und Unzulänglichkeit, was darauf hindeutet, dass er wahrscheinlich im Teenageralter oder in den frühen Zwanzigern war, aber das Alter ist flexibel.
- Es gab kein festgelegtes Alter für den Beginn des prophetischen Dienstes; kulturelle Normen könnten auf die späten Zwanziger hindeuten, aber Ausnahmen wie Samuel und Mose zeigen, dass Gottes Ruf in jedem Alter kommen kann.
- Geistlich gesehen zeigt Jeremias Geschichte, dass Gott Potenzial jenseits des Alters sieht, Treue über wahrgenommene Einschränkungen stellt und dazu ermutigt, in jeder Lebensphase offen für eine Berufung zu sein.
