Romans 1:21 puts the failure to give thanks at the start of the sequence, as a cause rather than a symptom.

Paul’s famous instruction does not say to give thanks for everything. It says to give thanks in all circumstances. The preposition is the whole difference, and it is the reason this subject is bearable. Nobody is being asked to be glad about a diagnosis or a redundancy.
