概要

  • 英語の聖書では、複数の言葉が「地獄（hell）」と訳されています： ゲヘナ, 、イエスの警告にあるエルサレムのヒンノムの谷。 「タルタロス」, 、死者の領域。そして動詞の タルタロー（tartaroo） （ペテロの手紙二 2章4節）。
  • マルコによる福音書9章48節は、イザヤ書の結びの言葉を引用しています。「彼らのうじは死ぬことがなく、火は消えることがない。」
  • マタイによる福音書25章41節は、永遠の火は「悪魔とその使いたちのために用意された」と述べており、25章46節では、罰と命の両方に対して同じ「永遠の」という言葉が使われています。

The Bible describes hell as the punishment that follows the final judgment, pictured as unquenchable fire and as outer darkness. Jesus speaks of it in his teaching (Mark 9:43-48; Matthew 25:31-46; Luke 16:19-31), and Revelation adds the lake of fire, “the second death” (Revelation 20:14).
