大聖堂 vs バシリカ vs 教会：司教座、教皇の称号、そして礼拝の場

概要

  • 大聖堂とは、司教の座（カテドラ）が置かれ、その教区の主要な教会となる場所です。バチカンの1989年の規範では、教区の教会の中で「第一の地位と最大の尊厳を有する」とされています。
  • バシリカとは、教皇からその称号を授与された教会です。四大バシリカはローマにあり、それ以外はすべて小バシリカと呼ばれます。GCatholic.orgによると、米国には94の小バシリカがあります。
  • 教会はその両方になり得ます。セントルイス大聖堂は1997年4月4日にバシリカとなり、サン・ジョヴァンニ・イン・ラテラノ大聖堂はローマ司教としての教皇の大聖堂であり、かつ主要なバシリカでもあります。サン・ピエトロ大聖堂は、大聖堂ではありません。
  • ニューヨークでは、大聖堂は5番街にあるセント・パトリック大聖堂です。バシリカはマルベリー・ストリートにある旧大聖堂で、2010年3月17日にバシリカとなりました。
  • バシリカの特権には、年に6日の全免償、旗や印章への教皇の交差した鍵の紋章の使用、そして主任司祭が着用する赤の縁取りがある黒のモゼッタ（肩衣）が含まれます。
  • 教会法では、すべての信者に開かれた教会と、祈祷所や私的な礼拝堂を区別しています。ロシア語の ソボル（sobor）, （モスクワの聖ワシリイ大聖堂など）は、必ずしも司教座である必要はありません。
