  • The Gospels never describe what Jesus looked like — no height, build, weight or face. For an ancient biography that is genuinely strange.
  • Skeletal remains suggest adult men in first-century Judea and Galilee averaged roughly 1.6 to 1.7 metres and were lean. Any weight figure is a population average applied to an individual.
  • Shroud-derived figures cannot carry the weight placed on them: authenticity is disputed, the 1988 radiocarbon dating gave a medieval range, and the Church presents it as devotional rather than settled.
  • Isaiah 53:2 points the same way as the silence: “nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.”
  • The Gospels are specific about what his body did — asleep in a storm, thirsty at a well, weeping, unable to carry the crossbeam — and silent about how it looked.
