概要

  • 聖書において、数字の99には特定の意味は割り当てられていません。この数字が登場する箇所では単に数を数えており、その数は数字そのものとは無関係な理由で重要となっています。
  • アブラムが99歳の時、神が現れて彼を「多くの国民の父」を意味するアブラハムと改名しました。それは約束から24年が経過し、まだ一人の子供も生まれていない時のことでした（創世記17章1-5節）。
  • 99匹の羊は野原に残されます。羊飼いが迷い出た1匹を追いかけるためです（ルカによる福音書15章4節）。経済的に見ればそれは愚かな行為であり、それこそがこのたとえ話の論点です。
  • イエスはこの話を、彼が罪人と食事をすることに不満を抱いた人々に語りました。彼らこそがその99匹であり、彼らの不満は、イエスがその1匹に構っていることに対するものでした。
  • このたとえ話は99匹を非難するものではありません。彼らに喜ぶことを求めているのです。しかし、それはより難しいことなのです。
