- Twelve prayers ask God for a more loving heart: for loving others well, for loving again after hurt, and for receiving God’s love.
- The love we pray for is the love Paul describes: “Charity suffereth long, and is kind” (1 Corinthians 13:4).
- No prayer can make another person love you, but you can ask for that person’s good and for your own patience, and leave their heart with God, who can turn hearts (Proverbs 21:1).
- The Catholic Catechism calls magic used to gain “a supernatural power over others” gravely contrary to religion (2117), and an Orthodox priest writing on the Russian Orthodox site Azbuka Very treats a love spell as a sin to confess.
- For a couple at odds, Paul’s counsel is “as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men” (Romans 12:18).
- The prayer for self-love is about accepting God’s love, in line with the command “Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself” (Mark 12:31).
