Satan heeft geen dochter in de Bijbel — en helemaal geen familie

  • Satan has no daughter in the Bible — no son, wife or family of any kind — and Scripture says almost nothing about his origin.
  • Luke 10:18, Revelation 12:9 and Jude 6 are close to the whole of it. The name is a title, de aanklager, describing what he does.
  • Lilith is not in the Bible. The Hebrew word appears once among desert creatures in a ruined land (Isaiah 34:14); the legend is later folklore, principally the satirical Alfabet van Ben Sira.
  • “You belong to your father, the devil” (John 8:44) is an argument about resemblance, not descent. 1 John 3:10 makes the criterion doing what is right.
  • The writers knew the detailed angelology of works like 1 Enoch and declined to use it. James 4:7 asks for resistance, not knowledge.
