19 Bible Verses About Women of God, and Why That Phrase Is Not in the Bible

The phrase “woman of God” is not in the Bible. “Man of God” is, dozens of times, and almost always as a title for a prophet. Moses is called it, and Samuel, Elijah and Elisha. No woman is given the matching phrase anywhere in Scripture — which is worth knowing before we build a whole idea of womanhood on it. Women named as prophets in Scripture: Miriam (Exodus 15:20), Deborah (Judges 4:4), Huldah (2 Kings 22:14), Noadiah, whom Nehemiah counted an opponent (Nehemiah 6:14), and Anna (Luke 2:36). Isaiah’s wife is called the prophetess at Isaiah 8:3.

Micah lists Miriam with Moses and Aaron at Micah 6:4.

Huldah’s verdict is at 2 Kings 22:15-20; Josiah’s reform follows in chapter 23.

Abigail’s interception of David is at 1 Samuel 25:18-35. Sarah’s laugh is at Genesis 18:12-15.

Timothy’s Greek father is mentioned at Acts 16:1. The widows and the clothes are at Acts 9:39.
