  • 出エジプト記20章2節は、神がイスラエルを「奴隷の家」から救い出したことを十戒の冒頭で述べています。
  • レビ記25章10節は、ヘブライ語の言葉を用いてヨベルの年に自由を宣言しています。 デロール, これはイザヤ書61章1節で「捕らわれ人に解放を」と告げるために使われている言葉であり、自由の鐘(リバティ・ベル)にはこの聖句が刻まれています。
  • ヨハネによる福音書8章34-36節で、イエスは奴隷状態を罪と呼び、解放するのは御子であると語っています。
