概要

  • 聖書は辞書のように善を定義することはありません。神の中にそれを示しており、詩篇119篇68節は神について「あなたは恵み深く、善を行われる」と述べています。
  • ヘブライ語でその言葉は トーブ, 、そして新約聖書では アガトス, アガトシュネー （「善」、4回）および クレーストテース （「親切」）が使われています。
  • 創世記1章で、神はご自分が造られたものを6回「良い」と見られ、最後にはすべてを「非常に良かった」（創世記1:31）と呼んでいます。
  • 神の善がモーセの前を通り過ぎるとき、それは憐れみ、恵み、忍耐、変わらぬ愛、そして真実として宣言されます（出エジプト記33:19、34:6–7）。
  • パウロは御霊の実に善を含めており（ガラテヤ5:22）、ラテン語ウルガタ訳に従うカトリックの伝統では、9つではなく12の果実を数えます。
