  • Green in the Bible means alive — still drawing water, still putting out leaves. Envy, money and inexperience are English associations, not biblical ones.
  • The Hebrew words describe condition rather than hue: ラアナン is luxuriant and thriving, yaraq covers green vegetation.
  • Psalm 1:3 and Jeremiah 17:8 give the governing image, and Jeremiah adds the point: the heat still comes and the drought still arrives. The tree is connected to something the weather does not reach.
  • Psalm 92:14 calls old people “fresh and green,” in a psalm that has just contrasted them with grass that springs up fast and is destroyed.
  • Psalm 23:2 is about competence — grass grows where there is water, and sheep lie down only when hunger, fear and conflict have been dealt with.

Green in the Bible does not mean envy, money, or inexperience. Those are English. In Scripture green means alive — still drawing water, still putting out leaves.
