  • ヘブライ語、ギリシャ語、あるいはその他のいかなる翻訳においても、聖書の中に「マライア」という名前の人物は登場しません。
  • マライアは、マリア（Maria）の英語圏における変種です。マリアはメアリー（Mary）のギリシャ語・ラテン語形であり、モーセの姉妹の名前であるヘブライ語のミリアム（Miryam）に由来します。
  • その意味は「メアリーのもの」ですが、定かではありません。この名前はエジプト語起源である可能性があり、おそらく「愛された」を意味する言葉に由来すると考えられています。
  • 「マ・ライ・ア」という発音は、マリアを英語で呼ぶ伝統的な方法です。「風」という意味は、1951年の楽曲「They Call the Wind Maria（邦題：風の歌）」に由来します。
