20 Bible Verses About Home



  • Psalm 127:1 calls the work of building a house and guarding a city vain unless the Lord builds and watches, and verse 2 says the same of a household’s long working days.
  • Deuteronomy 6:7 places the teaching of God’s commands in the house, and 6:9 has them written on its doorposts and gates.
  • The “house” David prays for in 2 Samuel 7:29 is his dynasty, promised in 2 Samuel 7:27, not a building.
  • Hebrews 13:2 urges hospitality to strangers; in Genesis 18 Abraham welcomes three men, one of them the Lord, and in Genesis 19 Lot welcomes two angels.
  • John 14 has Jesus preparing a place in his Father’s house (14:2) and the Father and the Son making their home with the one who loves him (14:23).

The Bible speaks of home as a house the Lord builds, where his commands are taught and strangers are welcomed, and as a dwelling with God. Psalm 127:1 has the Lord build the house, Deuteronomy 6:7 has his commands taught in it, Hebrews 13:2 opens it to strangers, and in John 14:2 Jesus promises rooms in his Father’s house.
