  • Shared Christian Identity: First and foremost, Catholics are Christians! They profess faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, sharing the core beliefs found in foundational statements like the Nicene Creed. We are family in Christ!
  • Broader Basis of Authority: A key difference is the Catholic reliance on both Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition as God’s revealed truth, interpreted by the Church’s teaching office (the Magisterium), led by the Pope as Peter’s successor. This is different from the Sola Scriptura (Scripture Alone) principle common in many Protestant traditions.
  • Salvation as a Grace-Filled Journey: While salvation starts with God’s grace through Christ, Catholics see it as a lifelong journey involving faith, baptism, receiving grace through sacraments, and actively cooperating with God through faith-filled works of love.
