In the Bible, repentance is a turn from sin to God that shows in how a person lives. Jesus opens his preaching in Galilee with “repent and believe in the gospel” (Mark 1:15), Ezekiel calls Israel to “turn back” and live (Ezekiel 33:11), and David says God will not despise “a broken and contrite heart” (Psalm 51:17).
