- Nineteen has no symbolic meaning in the Bible. It appears as a plain count: nineteen towns in Naphtali (Joshua 19:38), nineteen men missing after a skirmish (2 Samuel 2:30).
- The exception is the dating of the fall of Jerusalem — the nineteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar, when the temple was burned (2 Kings 25:8-9; Jeremiah 52:12), in 586 BC.
- The event is dated by a foreign king’s regnal year because there was no longer a king of Judah to count by. The dating is part of the humiliation.
- Seven, forty, twelve and three do carry meaning, established by the text’s own repeated use. Systems assigning meaning to every number work from outside the text.
- Repeatedly noticing a number is an attention effect. Leviticus 19:26 warns against seeking omens; Philippians 4:6 invites the direct request instead.
