概要

  • 聖書において、19という数字に象徴的な意味はありません。それは単なる数として現れます。ナフタリの19の町（ヨシュア記19:38）、小競り合いの後に見当たらない19人の兵士（サムエル記下2:30）といった具合です。
  • 例外はエルサレム陥落の年代特定です。ネブカドネツァルの第19年、神殿が焼き払われた時（列王記下25:8-9、エレミヤ書52:12）、紀元前586年のことです。
  • この出来事が外国の王の治世で年代特定されているのは、数えるべきユダの王がもはや存在しなかったからです。この年代特定自体が屈辱の一部なのです。
  • 7、40、12、3といった数字には意味がありますが、それは聖書テキスト自身が繰り返し用いることで確立されたものです。すべての数字に意味を割り当てる体系は、テキストの外側から持ち込まれたものです。
