Apóstoles vs discípulos: ¿cuál es la diferencia?

  • A disciple is anyone who follows Jesus and learns from him, and an apostle is a disciple he sent out to preach with his authority, so every apostle was a disciple but most disciples were never apostles.
  • Después de una noche de oración, Jesús eligió a doce de sus discípulos, “a los cuales también llamó apóstoles” (Lucas 6:13), y Matías ocupó más tarde el lugar de Judas Iscariote (Hechos 1:26).
  • The Greek word for disciple, mathētēs, means a learner and comes more than 260 times, all in the Gospels and Acts; apostolos means one who is sent and comes about 80 times.
  • Jesus sent out seventy others as well (seventy-two in some manuscripts), and by the time of Acts every believer is called a disciple.
  • Besides the Twelve, the New Testament calls Paul and Barnabas apostles and Paul counts James the Lord’s brother among them; Acts calls a woman, Tabitha, a disciple, and translations differ on whether Romans 16:7 counts Junia among the apostles.
