Scripture quotations are from the New International Version; Exodus 22:18 is also given in the King James Version where that rendering is discussed.

Modern translations render the Hebrew of Exodus 22:18 as “sorceress” (NIV, ESV, NASB). Whether the King James “witch” is a fair rendering is disputed among scholars; what is not disputed is that the verse was cited during the early modern witch trials.
