概要

  • イザヤ書40章22節の「円」は、 chug, と訳されており、これはヨブ記22章14節の「巡り」や箴言8章27節の「円」の背後にある名詞です。ブラウン・ドライバー・ブリッグス（BDB）辞典では、これら3つすべてを「天の穹窿（きゅうりゅう）」という項目に分類しています。
  • ヨブ記26章7節には、神が「地を何もないところに懸け」たとあり、その11節後にはヨブが「天の柱」について語っています。
  • イザヤ書11章12節の「地の四隅」は、 カナフ, と訳されており、これは翼や端を意味し、ヨブ記38章13節の「地の果て」の背後にある言葉です。
  • 詩編19編4-6節と伝道の書1章5節は、太陽が昇り、沈み、その巡りを走る様子を描写しています。

The King James Bible speaks of the earth in more than one way. God “sitteth upon the circle of the earth” (Isaiah 40:22) and “hangeth the earth upon nothing” (Job 26:7), and the same books speak of its foundations, its pillars and “the four corners of the earth” (Isaiah 11:12).
