17 Bible Verses About Raising Children

  • Deuteronomy 6:6-7 places the teaching of children in daily routine: at home, on the road, at bedtime and on rising.
  • The verb in Proverbs 22:6, chanak, is also used for dedicating a new house (Deuteronomy 20:5) and the temple (1 Kings 8:63).
  • Proverbs pairs “the rod and reproof”, and Christians differ over whether the rod means physical punishment or correction of any kind.
  • Ephesians 6:4 and Colossians 3:21 forbid fathers to provoke their children, and Colossians gives the reason: “lest they become discouraged.”
