  • Scripture records no dream of blood and gives no meaning to one. It keeps no dream dictionary.
  • The Bible defines the word itself: “For the life of a creature is in the blood” (Leviticus 17:11). Blood is about life handed over, not primarily about death.
  • “Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness” (Hebrews 9:22) — not because God is bloodthirsty, but because someone always absorbs the cost.
  • Its course through Scripture runs from accusation (Abel’s blood crying from the ground) to protection (the doorposts in Egypt) to covering (the Day of Atonement) to a blood that “speaks a better word than the blood of Abel” (Hebrews 12:24).
  • The image that looks like catastrophe is, in God’s hands, the mark of a household passed over.

Scripture records no dream of blood, and gives no meaning to one. If we have come looking for what it signifies to see blood in the night, there is no verse that says, and we will not invent one. But blood is not a minor word in the Bible. It may be the central one. And what it means there is almost the opposite of what a frightening dream suggests.
