  • De Bijbel zegt twee keer dat “God liefde is” (1 Johannes 4:8, 16), hoewel er nergens letterlijk staat dat “Jezus liefde is”.
  • Johannes verklaart die liefde door naar Jezus te wijzen: God “heeft zijn eniggeboren Zoon in de wereld gezonden, opdat wij zouden leven door Hem” (1 Johannes 4:9–10; 3:16).
  • Christenen die geloven dat Jezus God is, zien Hem als Gods liefde in menselijke gedaante, en Benedictus XVI wijdde een sectie van Deus Caritas Est (2005) in met “Jezus Christus – de mensgeworden liefde van God.”
  • Jehova's getuigen, die niet geloven dat Jezus God is, noemen hem “een volmaakte afspiegeling van zijn Vader.”
