As libélulas não estão na Bíblia — e não têm qualquer significado bíblico

  • A libélula não está na Bíblia. Ela não aparece em lugar nenhum nas Escrituras e não carrega nenhum simbolismo bíblico.
  • Páginas que lhe atribuem significados como transformação ou renovação baseiam-se no folclore moderno e chamam-no de bíblico.
  • As Escrituras mencionam insetos quando eles se cruzam com a vida humana: gafanhotos que comeram o Egito e alimentaram João Batista, moscas e mosquitos nas pragas, abelhas pelo mel, traças que arruínam tesouros, a formiga apresentada ao preguiçoso.
  • Provérbios 30:24-28 lista quatro pequenas criaturas que são “extremamente sábias” — a formiga, o arganaz, o gafanhoto e o lagarto — como observações em vez de símbolos.
  • A relação das Escrituras com a criação é de atenção, não de alegoria. Uma libélula pode simplesmente ser apreciada.

The dragonfly is not in the Bible. It appears nowhere in Scripture, in any translation working from the original languages, and it carries no biblical symbolism whatever. That is the honest answer. But the absence is worth understanding, because Scripture is unusually specific about insects, and its reason for mentioning the ones it does is not what we might guess.
