In the Bible, resentment appears as a grudge, bitterness or the wish to pay someone back, and the one who was wronged is told to let go and leave repayment to God. The law forbids bearing a grudge (Leviticus 19:18), Paul says to put away bitterness (Ephesians 4:31), and Jesus ties forgiving others to being forgiven (Matthew 6:14-15).
