  • Psalm 34:18 and Psalm 147:3 say the Lord is near to the brokenhearted and heals them, and Isaiah 61:1-3 sends the Lord’s anointed to bind them up.
  • Psalm 41:9 and Psalm 55:12-13 describe the betrayal of a close friend, and Jesus quoted Psalm 41:9 of his betrayer (John 13:18).
  • Isaiah 54:6 pictures Zion as a deserted wife whom the Lord will gather with great compassion, and in Jeremiah 30:14-17 the Lord who struck Zion for her guilt promises to heal her wound.
