The Bible’s teaching on giving runs from the tithe, a tenth set apart for God, through freewill offerings and gifts to the poor, to the collections of the first churches. Jesus praised a poor widow’s two coins (Mark 12:41-44), and Paul gathered money for the poor in Jerusalem (Romans 15:26).
