  • يحرم سفر اللاويين 19: 28 الوشم إلى جانب جروح الجسد للموتى، ويقدم "أنا الرب" كسبب لذلك.
  • العبارة العبرية للوشم في اللاويين 19: 28 تجمع بين kethobeth, ، أي كتابة، و qa’aqa, ، أي نقش، ولا تظهر أي من الكلمتين في أي مكان آخر في العهد القديم؛ وتترجم نسخة الملك جيمس العبارة بـ "ولا تجعلوا في أنفسكم كتابة وسم".
  • يحرم سفر التثنية 14: 1-2 جرح النفس للموتى لأن إسرائيل "شعب مقدس للرب إلهك".
  • يصور إشعياء 44: 5 شخصاً يكتب "للرب" على يده، وفي إشعياء 49: 16 يقول الله إنه نقش صهيون على كفيه.

The Bible forbids tattoos in a law given to Israel.
