- Natalia non è nella Bibbia. Deriva dal latino natalis, “relating to birth, birthday,” which early Christians used especially for the birth of Jesus, so the name means “Christmas Day.”
- Natalie and Nathalie are the English and French forms; Natalya, Nataliya and Natasha are Russian and Ukrainian. Noel and Noelle come from the same Latin word.
- It has no Hebrew origin. Nathan (“he gave”) and Nathanael (“God has given”) sound similar but come from a Hebrew verb meaning “give.”
- The birth the name refers to is told in Matthew and Luke (Luke 2:11).
- Saint Natalia was the wife of Adrian of Nicomedia, martyred in the early fourth century. She encouraged him in prison and was with him at his execution.
- The early Church also called a martyr’s day of death a natalis, a birthday into eternal life.
