概要
- Natalia is not in the Bible. It comes from Latin natalis, “relating to birth, birthday”, which the early Church gave to the Nativity — so the name means a child of Christmas.
- Natalie is the French form; Noel and Noelle carry the same idea through another word.
- Saint Natalia was the wife of Adrian of Nicomedia, the Roman officer converted by watching the Christians he was guarding. She went into the prison and stayed with the condemned until her husband died.
- A saint’s feast is traditionally the day of their death, and the Church calls it their dies natalis — their birthday. Because God was born, dying became a kind of birth.
- The first Christmas was a long journey, no room, animals, and a flight into Egypt. Scripture describes a light appearing where people walked in darkness, which means the darkness was real.
