  • Dominicは聖書には登場しませんが、後期ラテン語のDominicusに由来し、「主に属する」という意味があります。そして Dominus は、西洋の聖書で「主」を指す言葉です。
  • 伝統的に日曜日に生まれた子供に付けられてきました。なぜなら、ラテン語で日曜日は 主日, 、つまり「主の日」だからです。名前と曜日は同じ言葉なのです。
