O que a Bíblia diz sobre bruxas — e o que ela não diz



  • A Bíblia proíbe a feitiçaria e não diz nada sobre a bruxa do folclore — chapéu, vassoura, caldeirão — que é do início da era moderna europeia.
  • Deuteronómio 18:10-11 lista práticas em vez de pessoas, e a razão dada é que Israel tinha um caminho melhor: Deus falaria através de um profeta (18:15).
  • A palavra "bruxa" na versão King James de Êxodo 22:18 traduz melhor uma palavra hebraica que deveria ser lida como feiticeira. Essa frase em inglês foi citada em julgamentos por toda a Europa e na América colonial, algo que o versículo nunca exigiu.
  • 1 Samuel 28 é uma tragédia, não uma aventura oculta: Saul consulta uma médium porque Deus silenciou, e a mulher grita quando funciona, depois obriga-o a comer.
  • A Escritura não fornece nenhuma chave para sonhos (Génesis 40:8), e um sonho sobre uma bruxa não é prova de que alguém o esteja a amaldiçoar — uma crença que ainda leva pessoas a serem expulsas ou mortas.
