  • Aliceは聖書には登場しません。古フランス語のAalisを経てAdelaisから派生し、さらにゲルマン語のAdalheidisに由来します。 adal (「高貴な」)および heit (「種類、性質」)。
  • ノルマン人がイングランドに持ち込み、中世には最も一般的な名前の一つとなりました。AllisonやAlisonはその愛称です。
  • この名前で最も有名な人物は架空の存在ですが、1865年当時の実在の人物の誰よりも、私たちの多くにとって鮮明な存在です。
  • イエスも同じように教えを説きました。良きサマリア人も放蕩息子も実在せず、父親が実際に道を走ったわけでもありません。しかし、彼らは歴代誌に登場するほとんどの王よりも、私たちにとって現実味のある存在です。
