概要

  • カトリック教徒とプロテスタント教徒は聖書（ただし聖書の書目リストは異なります）、古代の信条、そしてキリストへの信仰を共有していますが、権威（聖書と聖伝および教皇、あるいは聖書のみ）と、罪人がどのように義とされるかという点において主に異なります。
  • カトリック教会には7つの秘跡があり、実体変化を教えています。ほとんどのプロテスタント教会には2つの聖礼典があり、ルーテル派、改革派、バプテスト派は、聖体拝領におけるキリストの臨在について異なる見解を持っています。
  • カトリックの聖書は73書、プロテスタントの聖書は66書です。カトリック教徒はマリアと聖人に執り成しを願い、煉獄を信じていますが、プロテスタント教会はこれらを否定しています。
  • 分裂は、1517年10月31日にマルティン・ルターが「95ヶ条の論題」を送ったことから始まりました。カトリック教会はトリエント公会議（1545年〜1563年）でこれに応答しました。

Catholics and Protestants share the Scriptures, though not the same list of books, say the same ancient creeds and worship the same Lord.
