Toen begon hij met het bidden van de gehele Rosary—all 20 mysteries—every single day. The effect was immediate and miraculous. He writes: “all those daggers of sin and temptation which pierced my heart and bone, from the very moment I ended the first of my many full Rosaries, now seemed as pebbles, that could not even pierce the skin”.⁴⁶ For him, this devotion was the key that unlocked freedom from mortal sin and filled his heart with a deep, personal love for God.

De Rozenkrans is ook een bron van ongelooflijke moed geweest in momenten van onvoorstelbare terreur. Een 25-jarige studente overleefde de gruwelijke terroristische aanslag op een Chaldeeuws-katholieke kerk in Bagdad in 2010. For many, the Rosary opens the door to a much deeper, more personal relationship with Jesus. One person shared that while meditating on the Sorrowful Mysteries, they entered a deep state of imaginative prayer. They were able to “see” the Crucifixion in a vivid, realistic way and began to cry uncontrollably with a powerful feeling of “sadness, wonder and gratitude”.³⁹ It was no longer just a story in a book; it was a personal encounter with the immense love of the Savior. This is the fruit of the Rosary: it takes the truths of our faith from our heads to our hearts.

Pick up a rosary, find a quiet moment, and offer the first prayer. Do not see it as a test to be passed as the start of a beautiful spiritual adventure. As St. Josemaría Escrivá said, “The holy rosary is a powerful weapon. Use it with confidence and you’ll be amazed at the results”.⁴¹ Accept the invitation. Take Mary’s hand, and let her lead you to the immense love and mercy of Jesus.
