- Il nome di Gesù in aramaico, la sua lingua madre, era “Yeshua” (×™Öµ×©× ×•Ö¼×¢Ö·), che significa “Yahweh salva” o “Yahweh è salvezza”. Questo nome si è evoluto attraverso il greco (“Iēsous”) e il latino (“Iesus”) prima di diventare “Gesù” in italiano.
- Ai suoi tempi, Gesù era conosciuto con descrittori come “Gesù di Nazareth”, “Gesù, figlio di Giuseppe” o “Gesù il Galileo”, piuttosto che avere un cognome formale. Questi identificatori riflettevano le pratiche culturali di denominazione dell'epoca.
- I primi Padri della Chiesa sottolinearono il significato spirituale e il potere del nome di Gesù, vedendolo come una manifestazione della sua natura divina e della sua missione salvifica. Insegnavano la sua efficacia nella preghiera e contro le forze del male.
- Sebbene conoscere il nome aramaico originale di Gesù possa approfondire la nostra comprensione del suo contesto storico e del significato del suo nome, non c'è alcuna necessità spirituale di usare “Yeshua” invece di “Gesù” nella pratica cristiana regolare. Il potere risiede nella Persona a cui il nome si riferisce, non nella sua specifica pronuncia.
