Hazel está na Bíblia? Não, embora a versão King James mencione a árvore uma vez

  • Ninguém chamado Hazel aparece na Bíblia. O nome vem da palavra inglesa para a aveleira e uma cor castanho-clara, do inglês antigo hæsel.
  • A versão King James menciona a aveleira uma vez, entre as varas descascadas que Jacó colocou diante dos rebanhos de Labão (Génesis 30:37); as traduções modernas e a Douay-Rheims leem “amendoeira”.
  • A palavra hebraica aí é luz, que os léxicos definem como a amendoeira; Luz era também o nome antigo de Betel (Génesis 28:19). No hebraico moderno luz significa aveleira.
  • O significado “Deus vê” pertence a Hazael, um rei de Arã (2 Reis 8:7–15), não a Hazel.
  • Hazel alcançou o 18.º lugar para meninas americanas em 1897, saiu do top 1.000 após 1975 e voltou a ser 18.ª em 2023.
